George West, Texas

Sampson takes a bath atop one of his favorite throws on our first night in George West.

Well - here we are. A day late and more than a few dollars short, but we are back on the road.

We set out yesterday, a couple of hours late, and got about a third of the way down I-35 heading south when I realized I had left two of my critical medications at home. Meds I could not do without. So, we turned around and went back to spend yet another night at home.

This morning, we set out again and made it all the way to the Riverfront RV Park in George West, TX. It is a funky little RV park, right next to the George West airport. We have their rotating green and white beacon flashing over our heads every ten seconds or so. We are in one of the very few pull-through slots that they have. But its full hookups and on our first night out it is just fine.

But, man it is chilly. Winter has returned to Texas. The temp outside right now is 36 degrees (its 29 back in Round Rock) and it drizzled all the way down here. Truly, winter is the only time to visit south Texas.

I have been making some upgrades to the rig over the past couple of days. As I mentioned earlier, I installed a longer railing along the steps leading to the bath and bedroom level. It is a simple thing, but it sure makes a difference. This new unit is 30 inches long. The original was only 10 inches. It makes it a lot easier to go up or down. Fortunately Grand Design put a vertical aluminum brace in just the right place at the top of the steps.

Vicky wants curtains at ever window in the living area and I have developed a bracket to mount inside the top valance above each window. I have installed one in the dining area behind where I sit as a proof of concept and so far it looks good. I will be working on the big window across the back of the rig next. That is the critical one. Watch this space for updates.
