A Different Colorado High

There is something majestic about a hot air balloon. The way it hangs against the blue sky, moving slowly and effortlessly overhead. From onboard, the land drifts slowly below giving observers a lot of time to see exactly what the land looks like. Add twenty additional hot air balloons and the sky becomes a magical place.

Durango is hosting a hot air balloon rally this weekend. There are evening Balloon Glows, mass ascensions, games of touch and go, fox and hounds, and bomb the target. Yesterday was a bit of a down day for us, a time to do laundry, watch college football and take care of other chores. As the day began, we sat outside our door and watched balloons pass just to the south of us. The ascension point is up the road just a bit. Even the basic balloons are wonderous to see but there were some in the shapes of chickens, humpty dumpty, and other characters that strike the right chord of whimsy.

We had breakfast at a place called Oscars while our laundry washed and dried. It was a good breakfast but not great. They make a big deal over their hash browns, but I was underwhelmed. Again good, but not great. It filled me up though. Then we went to the City Market, not the one just next to where we were eating and laundering, but one all the way back across town. Then it was back to the trailer to try to find places to store all these clean clothes and newly bought food stuffs. The it was time for Texas to beat Iowa State and Wisconsin to lose to who ever they played (Michigan State this week). The Badgers aren’t just a disappointment this year, they are a bad football team. Yet I shall root for them. Better days are ahead.

I drained our holding tanks. They were getting full. The other day I washed the windows so naturally today it is raining. Yep, I woke up to the pitter patter of raindrops on the bedroom slide roof today. This is twice now that I have washed the rig windows and it has rained the next day. I need to consult the weather app more.

We also woke up to a Bovine lament today. There are cows in the field next to this RV campground and this morning they were conducting choir practice. I figure that being Sunday, their owner was a bit slow getting the feed out to the pasture. They have now gone silent, so I guess he or she finally got up. Whoops, just heard another cow call. I guess they were taking a break.

I had a warmed up cinnamon bun this morning and boy oh boy did that taste good. I had to shower after because I got so sticky. I guess I should eat them and not rub them all over me. I also have an apple fitter warming up in the bull pen, courtesy of Vicky’s sister. It is really great to go camping with friends and relatives. We had grilled burgers for dinner last night. We sure are eating well on this trip.

Out shower still leaks. This is a really pesky problem. I have applied silicone sealant three times to the area that I think is allowing the water through. But it is still flowing from somewhere else. I have a theory, but don’t really know what to do about it. I have been on hands and knees trying to figure this one out. I reckon more sealant.

Today marks the halfway point of this trip. The cats seem to have adjusted and our trailer is a very welcoming and homey place. Out cellular connectivity is a major disappointment, I should have known better than to take T-Mobile at its word (words to the wise – their coverage map is very misleading or they are flat out liars) but our AT&T backup is working for the most part. We are in a valley and it seems to be something of a cell phone black hole. Coverage changes over the course of the day and as I mentioned, some carriers are not here at all. And our water pressure was dismal until I took the regulator off. It is an adjustable one and I will need to adjust it again. We are here at the Westerly RV Park and Campground until Tuesday.

Did I mention that they have several cats here that roam the property. They are keeping out cats somewhat entertained. I suspect Ziva and Sampson just want to be outside with the campground cats. No balloons in the sky today. Too rainy I guess.
